Freshly-ground dark, fair-trade espresso beans are married with creamy almond milk in this caffeinated power-house facial to awaken tired skin.
Espresso Bean – We use dark beans with lots of caffeine because it’s well-known to protect skin from free-radical damage, brighten and smooth skin, and boost blood microcirculation.
Caffeine also acts as a vasoconstrictor, which reduces puffiness and inflammation, particularly in the under-eye area. Ultra-finely-ground bean particles soften but don’t dissolve in water, making them a gentle, natural way to slough away dead skin cells. Chlorogenic acids (CGA) contained in coffee beans can help reduce inflammation and oxidative damage due to skin problems such as eczema, acne, and psoriasis.
Caffeic acid may boost collagen levels and reduce the premature aging of cells.
Almond Milk – Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant in almonds that’s easily damaged when exposed to oxygen or light. Because we freeze and store our facials immediately after making them, the oxidation process stops quickly, leaving the vitamin E more potent and bioavailable.
We also leave the almond pulp in the milk, so that no nutrients are removed. This means our milk has much more of all the good things in it: Vitamin A, E, copper, and healthy fats.
Almonds also naturally contain linoleic acid, which helps stop moisture loss. And the fiber in almonds feeds good bacteria, helping to keep your skin’s microbiome healthy.
